Social Media netiquette

We love receiving comments from our readers.

The quality of these comments is more important to us than their quantity. We aim for discussions to be interesting and provide relevant information. We want to create an environment that encourages all of our readers to participate in the discussions.

To maintain this netiquette, we would like to give you some advice and a few rules that you should follow when writing comments. We also wish to explain how we handle breaches of these rules.

Corporate governance and accounting

Swiss GAAP FER

REDOG prepares detailed annual financial statements in accordance with Swiss GAAP FER that are audited and approved by an external auditor.

ZEWO quality seal
REDOG is an aid organisation recognised by ZEWO. The ZEWO quality seal acknowledges the diligent use of donations. REDOG complies with the tough ZEWO guidelines for accounting practices, charitable status and transparency.

REDOG Netiquette for Social Media

Dear Community, your opinions are important to us. A good discussion should provide interesting and relevant insights. Comments enrich discussions of social topics. Just as important is fair, respectful treatment of each other.

Why a Netiquette?

In our Netiquette, we define what we feel makes a good comment, and which rules we want to adopt when interacting via the REDOG social media channels. Furthermore, we want to explain how we will intervene in the case of violations of these rules. The Netiquette applies to the website and to all REDOG social media channels. If you have questions or concerns, please contact us: office@redog.ch

Kind regards, the REDOG Team

What makes a good comment?

We feel that the quality of the comment is more important than the quantity or length. Our aim is that the discussions provide interesting and relevant insights. We want to provide an environment in which all users can participate in a discussion.

  • A good comment refers to the corresponding REDOG post or the topic of the discussion. In other words: it is relevant.
  • Personal opinions in your comment should be backed up with clear arguments, particularly if you disagree with a post from REDOG or another user.
  • Always maintain a friendly, respectful conversational tone and do not be provoked by other users.
  • Watch your spelling. Continuous upper-case letters are seen as an inappropriately loud way of expressing yourself and are difficult to read.
  • Cynicism and irony cannot easily be recognised in written comments. Use caution with these stylistic devices to avoid being misunderstood.

The most important rules for comments

There are some rules which all discussion participants must comply with on the REDOG social media channels:

  • There is no place for insults, discrimination, calls to violence, glorification of violence, pornography, advertising, offensive language, defamation, and unverifiable insinuations.
  • Discrimination and defamation of other users and social groups based on their religion, origin, nationality, physical or mental impairment, income level, sexual orientation, age, or gender are not permitted.
  • Slanderous statements and statements which damage a business or reputation must not be circulated.
  • If you disagree with an article or comment, criticise the content and do not attack the author.
  • We will remove any insinuations and suspicions which are not founded in credible arguments or sources. Please make every effort to make credible statements.
  • Adverts and other commercial content have no place in the discussions. Please also avoid referencing your blog or website in any of your comments.
  • You must not publish personal or private data about other people. Please also consider what personal data you are making accessible via the internet.
  • The right to distribute content published by you must remain with you. If you should forward external content, please make sure that this has been released for distribution. Poems are also usually protected by copyright. Only short extracts may be published.
  • Quotes must be clearly identified as such and should be used as sparingly as possible. Always cite the source of your quote. Furthermore, always acknowledge that used quotes are a supplement of your statement, not the bulk of your article.
  • Feel free to use links in the comments, for example, to refer to more additional information on a topic. REDOG is not responsible for linked content and does not automatically check this. However, we reserve the right to remove links if they reference content that is in breach of the rules specified here.

How we moderate comments

We make every effort to moderate your comments as transparently as possible. The following points describe how and when we intervene:

  • We remove comments if they are in breach of the above rules. We also remove comments which do not make a constructive contribution to the discussion. This does not mean that we remove critical comments.
  • We reserve the right to block users in the case of serious or repeated breaches of our Netiquette.

Last but not least

We trust that you will read your comments through one last time before you click. Is what you want to say expressed clearly? and do you want to share it with the Community on REDOG social medial channels? Could the comment be interpreted as offensive by other users? Does it make a constructive contribution to the current REDOG discussion?

Thank you for your commitment to our Netiquette. We look forward to a lively discussion!
