Are you missing someone? We help you

Almost 5,000 people go missing in Switzerland every year. For a huge host of reasons. The missing persons are often elderly and suffering from dementia or confusion. They can also include hikers, mushroom pickers or mountain bikers who are caught out by bad weather or have an accident in the mountains and are unable to call for help. Or young people who run away from home.

Missing persons might find themselves in a life-threatening situation. Immediate action is required. This is where the search and rescue dogs come into it.

Deployments

The REDOG search and rescue dog teams are deployed to search for missing persons in inaccessible and unclear terrain, such as forests, riversides and pre-alpine regions. From extremely dense undergrowth to steep terrain – nothing is too difficult.

The dogs search for the smell of humans or items. They work with great independence at large distances and mostly out of view of the dog handler. This makes it possible to search large areas in a relatively short space of time. REDOG cooperates closely with the police in all cases.

The search and rescue dog teams consist of dog, dog handler and a search and rescue assistant (SAR). The volunteers in the Search and Rescue unit are responsible for securing the terrain and administering first aid. They are trained in orientation with map, compass and GPS. This makes it easier to cover all of the search terrain and the teams can work with even greater efficiency. Search and Rescue volunteers are also trained in first aid and Alpine technology.
